Location: Google Maps does not seem to like this exact location. Essentially you drive to the very end of Normandale Road, Normandale, Lower Hutt. There is a big Belmont Regional Park map at the entrance to Old Coach Road.
The Old Coach Road is an old forestry access road with sweeping views out towards Wellington, Upper Hutt and Kapiti. It's got to be one of our all-time favourite Lower Hutt walks. Probably because it's super easy (mostly flat) but you start high up so are rewarded with panoramic views anyway (bonus!). It'd be a great walk to take out of towners on.
There's a sign-post at the entrance which has a map of the whole of the Belmont Regional Park.
We headed up the track, admiring the giant tree to our left.
Once we got past the gate the views open up.
We were glad we had our hats and puffers as the wind was freezing.
There were some pretty fun looking mountain bike tracks; the kids loved watching a couple of daring people speeding down the hill.
A little further up we come across a sign to a View Point. Don't miss this - it's definitely worth the extra effort walking up the hill to the pylon. The views are spectacular!
The wind was hallowing so Miss 8 enjoyed her view from a low vantage spot, nestled in the grass.
You feel like you're on top of the world.
We then retraced our steps back down the track towards the car.
Nothing like running to keep warm.
Thanks Belmont Regional Park for another spectacular walk.
